Gele is an elegant head attire that is commonly and popularly worn by Nigerian Women. The Gele is tall, glorious, radiant, full of life, and charizzmatic (as evident in the gallery above). This journal believes there is a Gele Hidden in every Nigerian Woman, both past and present.

Founded by Idayat Oluwatosin Jinadu in December 2023, Hidden Gele offers a window into the rich tapestry of Nigerian culture, heritage, and feminism through the lens of Nigerian Womanhood. With a commitment to authenticity, depth, and inclusivity, Hidden Gele Journal shines a spotlight on the resilience, creativity, enjoyment, and aspirations of Nigerian women, empowering them to be seen, heard, and celebrated.

The purpose of Hidden Gele Journal is to radically make available, through tellings and retellings, the stories of Nigerian Women. History has said a lot of untrue things about Nigerian Women, it is time to believe Herstory. It is time to acknowledge and celebrate the true stories, achievements, and experiences of Nigerian women, moving beyond the inaccuracies and biases of conventional history.

We exist because we want to live in a world where Nigerian women are given all of their flowers with the most expensive champagne to go. Our vision and mission is to radically make available, through tellings and retellings, the stories of Nigerian Women—by publishing real and human stories of Nigerian Women.

We prioritize quality and quantity, valuing depth and resonance in every narrative. Thank you.
